Echo Investment S.A. is a leader in modern development and revitalization of urban spaces. The great example of their knowledge, experience and capabilities is finished in 2021 the flagship “destination” project - Warsaw Breweries.
Google Cloud Platform is a suite of cloud computing services offered by Google.
Being a developer is first to design and build buildings, or constructions and then to hand them over to users. Most developers switch to other projects at that point, but not Echo Investment. The desire to know more about just created space, how it is used by the users, what lessons can be learned from them, is not the only motivation that drives Echo. What is even more interesting is the question about services that should be offered to make that newly created space a great experience and a vibrant point on the city map. It is a fundamental question while creating a “destination” space, and answering that question lies in the hands of the marketing department of Warsaw Breweries directed by Dominika Telega-Białdyga.
Ability to recognise changes in people's behaviour fast, and then react immediately is essential to achieve success. That is why we need to monitor human traffic 24/7

Aioniq has been invited by Google Cloud Platform to discuss potential solutions with Echo Investment. During the consulting session we have chosen the best technological approach and shortly afterwards provided a working Proof-of-Concept. That enabled business to open this innovative project with low risk.
I knew what I wanted to achieve but I didn’t know how. Aioniq has designed a solution, provided us with a working prototype very fast and then implemented the final solution and deployed it to our operations

The system developed by Aioniq for monitoring of human traffic, uses the video stream from cameras located on the site. That video is then analysed by the AI Computer Vision algorithms to identify objects of type person, and track that object to observe traffic-in and out in time from the camera view.
Collected numerical data is then stored in the Google Cloud Platform.
The marketing department can immediately see on the reports in Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio), if the organized events, or attractions on site resulted in higher traffic, or how the human traffic flows in time through the designed space.
That second part is important for architects and designers to learn how provided space meets users expectations.
Very often, developers will build the project, sell it, and move on. But we want to learn how our buildings are used, well after we have finished building them, and bring those lessons to new projects. I call it DevOps for real estate, powered by technology

During the consulting session we have chosen the best technological approach and shortly afterwards provided a working Proof-of-Concept. That enabled business to open this innovative project with low risk.
The system developed by Aioniq consists of the following modules
AI Computer Vision algorithms providing objects recognition and tracking
Data logger allowing to convert outcomes of recognition into a numerical format
Data Cloud Connector, used to push local data to the Google Cloud Platform
Data visualization in reports made in Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio)
System runs with almost any IP camera
The on-the-edge computing devices
Thanks to computing on-the-edge the image from the camera is not stored for further processing, nor sent for processing outside of the local network. That approach ensures compliance with GDPR and safety of people's personal data.
To deliver cost effective and reliable data storage we have used Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
BigQuery is a central point for traffic data. We have used CloudFunction and Cloud Scheduler to run periodical data checks and eventual data statistical error correction
Paweł Rajtmajer
The reports have been prepared in Looker Studio, as it enables non technical people to build and use reports with ease.
The core function of recognizing objects of class ‘person’ is done using a TensorFlow model and logic built around it.
There are a lot of challenges in building a traffic monitoring system using cameras
Borys Rybak
The challenge is to keep high accuracy of data even in such a demanding environment. The product can be deployed almost anywhere, not only in the open areas of cities, but also in galleries or other spaces where monitoring a people's traffic is important and brings business value by enabling data-driven decisions.
Ready-made software that analyzes camera images using AI algorithms
The solution presents accurate data on 24-hour daily human traffic
Scalable system build on reliable Google Cloud Platform
Low operational costs makes a lot of saving
Easy reports accessible directly by business without technological knowledge
